I almost missed attending this show.
I was finally digging myself out of an avalanche of personal bullshit and going through my material from the 2019 AVN when I decided to check on when this year’s Exxxotica Chicago was going to be.
This was at the beginning of March 2019 and boy did I get a surprise!!
Exxxotica Chicago was usually either in June or July, but this year it had been moved up to April 5-7, 2019. I think this was due to new Exxxotica show debuting in Portland, Oregon in June. This gave me basically a month to apply for my press credentials. So I applied for my credentials, but wondered why I hadn’t received any notices about the move. What I found was that Gmail had put the notices in my Spam folder even though in the past I had identified any emails Exxxotica were not spam!
Thanks the fuck a lot Google.
Anyway, after a little effort, I was able to get my press credentials and attend the event. Now even though Exxxotica Chicago had been moved to earlier in the year, it was still held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL which is next to O’Hare International Airport.
Maybe because of the change from when the show was usually presented, the size of Exxxotica Chicago seemed a bit smaller than usual. I will say that even with the change in time of year, the show’s attendance didn’t seem to be affected and was possibly up a little which speaks to the popularity of the event.
The number of talent present was about the same as always with companies like LA Direct, Inked Angels, and Bad Dragon sponsoring a majority of the talent. But there were smaller vendors with sponsored talent as well as some of the talent having booths of their own.
One of the talent present was Tara Patrick. I met her at last year’s Exxxotica and had sent her the video I shot of her stage show that year. She liked it and added it to her website. When I saw her this year, I wanted to interview her. Luckily she was doing a seminar called’ “Tera Patrick: Up Close and Personal”, with true crime novelist Christian Cipollini, so I decided to record a video of the seminar. I’m glad I did because she covered the questions I had for her as well as providing additional material.
Besides the seminar, I had the honor of spending some additional time with Ms. Patrick and Mr. Cipollini and I admit this time with these two talented individuals was the highlight of my time at this year’s Exxxotica Chicago. They are down to earth and easy to talk to. Mr. Cipollini also helped me operating the camcorder when Ms. Patrick did her stage show while I took photos.
When taking photos of this year’s Exxxotica, I choose to focus more on the talent than what was happening on the stage. But besides getting shots of Tera Patrick’s sow, I also captured Rubberdoll, and King Noire’s Kinky Hip-Hop shows. Besides photos, I recorded five of the six performances by aerialist Ashley Addison. It’s great to have watched Ms. Addison’s career progress from almost the start and is one of the performers I highly recommend catching her shows whenever possible.
Besides the stage shows, I was able to do interviews with Alexis Fawx, Lauren Phillips, and Mallory Maneater. All videos shot at the 2019 Exxxotica Chicago can be seen on Erotic World Media’s YouTube channel and the photos can be found in the “Event Photo” section of this website.
In covering Exxxotica Chicago, I always try to find something special to share with you. For me, getting to spend time with Tera Patrick and Christian Cipollini was the highlight of the event. This is not to say it wasn’t great seeing all my industry friends – it was. I just got an opportunity to spend time with an industry legend who is just as down to earth and a sweetheart as well.
Does this happen to me a lot? No. But when someone like Ms. Patrick allows me a little extra time, I feel it speaks to the positive image I strive to have in this industry. And to that I am so very thankful.
